One thing about job hunting that we can collectively agree on is how hectic and uncertain it all is; and especially if its your first time.

As someone who's been through the harrowing process that is job hunting and applications, below are some tips to help you out.

Firstly, don't be too focused with just getting a job, rather look at the bigger picture.

What do I mean by this? It is okay to get starry-eyed by the  thought of getting a job but what's the needed experience? Where's the company located? What's the salary and what are the benefits?

Also agreeing with my very thoughts, Nakuru-based career coach Eric Ogugu shares, "It isn't bad to to think about your individual needs when seeking a job but they shouldn't be paramount. A huge question people forget to ask is: How does applying to this job/company build my CV or does it play a role in building the career I have planned out for myself?"

Another tip I'd  share with you is to avoid shutting yourself out of a job application just because you feel under-qualified.

Over the years, I have come to learn that you should take your chance and apply for a job as long as you meet 70 percent of what the recruiter seeks.

The worst outcome is a regret letter.

However, the best scenario is you getting called for an interview, which means you're one foot away from your dream job.

Mr Ogugu advises, "Interviews are your one shot to impress your future employers. Be sure to show up with an up-to-date CV/resume and make sure you revised interview questions before D-day."

From my personal experience, it also helps to read on the company before hand.

Why? This makes sure you're aware of the company's objectives, goals and values making sure all answers you give during the interview are aligned with such.

Researching beforehand also makes you aware of the company's dressing policies which ensures you show up to the interview in the appropriate clothes.

Another major thing that is often overlooked is showing up to job interviews with all the documents used for the job application.

Lastly, one thing I wish i knew earlier about job hunting is the utilization of professional and job seeking platforms.

Most of these platforms are not only easily accessible online, but also are a great place to read on job hunting tips and even meet experienced people to offer career advice or mentorship.

"My biggest advice to job seekers would be to seek connections with people already working at your dream company. Why? One, for you to have a connection to that company. Two, for you to have inside tea on the truth about working at that company and its benefits," Eric Ogugu closes off.

Good luck in your interview !
