A fire that broke out at the Posta area in Njoro Sub-County on Saturday night destroyed goods worth an estimated Sh1.2 million after engulfing three business premises.

‎‎The blaze, suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault, started around 8 p.m., prompting a response from residents and the Nakuru County Fire Brigade. Efforts to contain the fire lasted for about two hours before it was brought under control at approximately 10 p.m.

‎‎Njoro Sub-county OCPD Stanley Koech confirmed the incident, saying preliminary investigations indicate that an electrical fault may have triggered the fire.

‎‎“The fire affected three shops at the Posta area in Njoro. We suspect it may have been caused by an electrical fault, although investigations are still ongoing to establish the exact cause,” says Koech.

‎‎According to Koech, traders are counting losses estimated at Sh1.2 million following the destruction of merchandise and property. He noted that assessment of the damage was still ongoing and that the value could change once a comprehensive evaluation is completed.

‎‎No injuries or fatalities were reported during the incident. Residents joined firefighters in battling the flames, helping prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings and businesses.

‎‎Koech commended members of the public and emergency responders for their quick action, which he said helped contain the blaze before it could cause more destruction.

‎He also urged business owners to regularly inspect their electrical installations and ensure they comply with safety standards to minimize the risk of similar incidents in the future.

‎‎Meanwhile, he noted that they have launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the fire, with detectives expected to record statements from affected traders and witnesses as part of the inquiry.
