Hotels reap big as WRC safari rally kicks off
The World Rally Championship Safari rally event has greatly played a key role to Kenya's economy. It now ranks as one of the all-time high international events with the biggest direct economic benefit
ever held in Kenya.
Last year, the event held in Naivasha injected more than Sh 4 billion to the Nakuru economy, business leaders in the region confirmed.
According to a Tourism Research Institute report, the rally has continued to grow as an economic entity and is projected to make a significant contribution to the growth of Kenya’s economy in tourism, job opportunities and tax revenue in 2023.
This year, hoteliers in Nakuru and Naivasha towns have recorded an impressive influx of people with some hotels being fully booked.

“We have received 80 percent more guests compared to other days. Our rooms are fully booked by tourists, but the camping site is still available,” the camp manager of Crescent camp Hotel, Ephanus Kihu says.
Mr Kihu says they have been forced to increase the workforce at the facility so as to manage the guests.
Duncan Mwangi, the general manager of Sarova Woodlands hotel shares similar sentiments.
“We are a full house with the rally being held in Naivasha. This event is a boost to the hotel industry in Nakuru County,” he adds.
The beauty of Safari Rally is that it is not only a leisure event but also one that improves businesses in the region.
